To reduce the reliance on counter service for renewal, the department has made continuous effort to promote the use of the other channels (i.e. by post, online and drop box) over the years. However, given that applicants have a strong preference for counter service and wish to get the license at the spot, it is pragmatic for the department to continue exploring whether efficiency of counter service in renewal can be further enhanced by adopting new technical options. To keep pace with the application and omnipresence of innovative technology, it is considered to be essential to study the latest technology development in the market and identify new modes of channel for handling applications.

Expected Outcomes

The implementation of the Kiosk will provide an additional channel for applicants to submit applications of renewal without the need of queuing in front of the counter for a long period of time, which in turn also helps the counter staff to reduce work pressure in queue management, application submission and licence collection.

The Kiosk will make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to process application submission, information verification and identification as well as issuance of the renewed license in one-go on the spot.
