License Plate Number Recognition and Vehicle Tracking

Business Needs / Challenges

  1. Using technologies such as video analytics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, object detection or image recognition to recognise the License Plate Number (LPN) of every incoming goods vehicle at an outdoor plaza which will operate in day & night time;
  2. Send the LPN to our existing system instantly and being informed whether to track the concerned vehicle; and
  3. Seamless tracking of the concerned vehicle using technologies such as video analytics, artificial intelligence, computer vision, object detection or image recognition is required until the vehicle arrived at a designated area.
    (The scope of the Seamless Tracking should cover all the areas capturing by the cameras of the entire pre-clearance system, instead of those captured by one (1) or part of the cameras within the system. Any individual vehicle appeared/captured by any of the camera(s) should be able to be tracked by the system when it disappears/leaves the capture area of a camera(s), but appears/captures by another camera(s).)

Expected Outcomes

  1. To be developed in a built plaza and may make use of existing facilities such as canopy of a shelter and poles for mounting;
  2. Artificial Intelligence to be incorporated may be not be enough by functionality and also processing power if just by using the embedded system of A.I. Camera, for which a much more powerful back-end system may be involved;
  3. For the Day/Night time operation, it is a must to handle extreme cases, such as some dark areas at night which cannot be illuminated by IR due to the long distance and also the direct sunlight during sunrise/sunset (in case of the camera is facing to such directions);
  4. LPN shall be recognised as soon as practicable;
  5. As long as the recognised LPN needs to be sent to the existing system instantly for vehicle tracking, there is a need of system integration process to bring them together; and
  6. Multi-camera linkage (high, ground, left, right and centre, etc.) maybe required as to complement each camera’s vision since goods vehicles maybe in queue in several adjacent lanes at the same time and hence some cameras’ vision on the concerned vehicle will be blocked by adjacent vehicles or the vehicle in front.
